THE CREATIVE TEAM

Eric Lockley [Playwright] is a Performer, Playwright and Producer within The Movement Theatre Company and the producing collective, Harlem 9. He is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA and a double major in Africana Studies. As a Performer his Stage credits include CATO (The Flea), Holes (Atlantic Thtr Co.), The Winter’s Tale (NYU), Black Terror (NYU), SPUNK (Penobscot) and CHAINS, performed in South Africa. Eric has also performed in a number of devised-theater pieces where the cast and director collaborate to write and develop a play that the cast then performs. Most notable are 07:00 Seconds, a piece based on the best-selling book BLINK by Malcolm Gladwell and Hope Speaks, a show developed through The Movement Theatre Company about Election Day 2008, the day the first Black President was elected. Jonathan McCrory [Director] has worked professionally for the past five years as a actor, director and producer throughout the East Coast: New York, Washington, DC; Baltimore; and Winston-Salem, NC. A Washington, DC native, he attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where he obtained training both a a musical theater artist and in theatre production. He earned a BFA degree in Acting and Africana Studies at New York University [NYU]. As a director, Jonathan's directing credits include: Enter Your Sleep, Hope Speaks, Wake, Last Laugh, With Out Trace and Asking For More. Hope Speaks, one of his most notable credits is a touring work under TMTC that chronicles the excitement and first hand testimonies surrounding the 2008 election of President Barack Obama. Outside of his own directorial work, he has been able to work as an assistant director under both established and emerging directors such as Talvin Wilks: Anne & Emmet, One Quarter, and Banana Beer Bath; Charles Randolph-Wright: Motown ; and Jesca Prudencio: Black Boy & The War. Harlan Penn [Set Designer] received his undergraduate degree in Theatre Arts(emphasis area: stage design) from Florida A & M University. He later received his MFA in Scenic Design form North Carolina School of the Arts His design credits include Jitney, The Wiz, Flyin’ West, King Hedley II, Radio Golf, A Soldier’s Play, The Mighty Gents, Chained Dog, Jar the Floor, Dreamgirls, Polk County, Extremities, Buried Child, Gangsters Over Harlem, Brilliant Traces, Seven Guitars, Nicholas Nickleby, and The Guest of Central Park West to name a few. Harlan also teaches stage design and visual arts at Manhattan theatre Lab High School in Midtown Manhattan.

Jerry L . Johnson [Costume Designer] received his MFA in Production Design from the College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University. He served as Assistant Professor of theatre at Florida A & M University for five years. His work has been seen at The Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, PaperMill Theatre, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, The MacHaydan Theatre and ETA Hoffman Theatre in Bamburg Germany. Jerry has worked on the following Broadway shows; Disney's The Lion King, Jersey Boys, and Disney's . Also while living in NYC, he was worked for the following fashion houses; Marc Jacobs, Alice and Olivia, and Overton Monroe.

 

Marika Kent [Lighting Designer] is a New York City based lighting designer of live performance. She has designed in venues including Joe's Pub, HERE Arts Center, The Brooklyn Lyceum, The Chocolate Factory, Abrons Arts Center Playhouse, The Paradise Factory, New York Theater Workshop's 4th Street Theater and The Club at La MaMa. She is a company member of Organs of State.


Samuel Nacach [Sound Designer]
is a current graduate student of the Tonmeister Music Technology and Recording Arts Program at the Steinhardt School at New York University. As an audio engineer, he uses and explores various engineering tools including surround sound techniques to invite the audience into the play. As a designer he uses his extensive knowledge of music to incorporate familiar and unfamiliar music into the plays evolving worlds. Similarly his design is decorated with subtle yet powerful effects to shape the mood and world of each scene. Samuel has worked in various undergraduate plays at UCSD, where he did his undergrad in Music Technology, with titles such as Hot L Baltimore, Wintertime and The Thugs.

Zoe Hoarty (Production Stage Manager) received a BFA in design/technology (focus: stage management) from the Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Purchase College.  Her recent works include Mother Courage and Her Children; Miranda; Love's Fire; Durang Durang; Bronx Kiss; and Tartuffe; she has also worked for Lyrics and Lyricists at the 92nd St. Y; the 2012 Yankees Homecoming Dinner; the DUMBO Arts Festival; and the 2012 CLIO Awards.  She spends her summers working in Prospect Park at Celebrate Brooklyn! and has worked as venues such as the HERE Arts Center; Emelin Theatre; the Round House Theater in Silver Spring, MD and Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD.
